Women's Hoops Loses to Radford, 66-59

BURLINGTON, Vt. (www.lafayette.edu) - Five players scored in double figures, but the Lafayette women's basketball team fell short in its second game of the season, losing to Radford in the consolation game of the Howard Bank Classic hosted by the University of Vermont.

Lafayette played it close for the first 10 minutes of the game, tied at 12-12 at 10:20 when Jennifer Bayer put in two of her 10 points off a pass from Christel Rocha. That would be Lafayette's final share of the lead for the night, as Radford's Sherri Rickman hit a three-pointer to put Radford up 15-12.

The game slowly got away from Lafayette near the end of the first half. Radford used a combination of four three-pointers and an 8-9 first half performance from the free throw line to take a 38-24 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, Lafayette was able to cut the lead to nine points, six different times and to seven points just three times, including the game's final 66-59 margin.

Rocha and sophomore Megan Haughey each hit double figures for the second straight game, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively following 13-point and 10-point performances in the Leopards' opening round game vs. host Vermont. Freshman Colleen Fitzpatrick (12) and junior Christina LiVecchi (10) also managed to post double digits for the Leopards.

Rocha was selected to the Howard Bank Classic All-Tournament Team after accumulaing 24 points, six assists and seven rebounds over the two-game event.

It will be more tournament action for Lafayette (0-2) in the Leopards' next two games. Along with Wisconsin-Green Bay and St. Francis (N.Y.), Lafayette will competing in the Warner's Classic hosted by Fairfield on Nov. 24-25.
