Women's Basketball Notches First Victory

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (www.lafayette.edu) - Jennifer Bayer scored a game-high 18 points on nine-for-11 shooting to lead the Lafayette College Leopards (1-3) to a 77-51 victory over the St. Francis College Terriers (0-3) in the consolation game of the Fairfield University Warner's Classic.

After the Terriers cut the Lafayette lead to 6-5 early in the game, the Leopards went on a 23-5 run which gave them a 29-10 lead with 4:19 to play on a free throw by Laurie Infantino.

Lafayette opened the second half with a 19-9 run, with Bayer accounting for 10 of the points, to take a 48-23 advantage with 13:49 left in the game. St. Francis answered with a 9-2 run of its own. The Terriers would come no closer, however, as the Leopards scored the next seven points and never looked back.

Also scoring in double figures for Lafayette were Jennifer Corvigno and Megan Haughey, each with 10 points. Elise Palac grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, leading the Leopards to a 41-33 advantage on the boards.

Lafayette opens its 2000-01 home schedule on Monday, Nov. 27, by hosting Sacred Heart at 5:45 p.m. in the Allan P. Kirby Sports Center. The game also marks the season debut of Lafayette Sports Network's live television coverage of the 2000-01 Leopards.
