COLLEGE PARK, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - Renneika Razor poured in a career-high 25 points to lead Maryland's women's basketball team (8-2) to an 80-61 victory over Lafayette (4-6) Friday at the Terrapins' Cole Field House.
Maryland gradually built a lead that would total 17 points by the end of the first half. Razor paced the half with her 7-of-7 performance from the floor to take the Terps into the lockeroom with a 42-25 advantage.
Lafayette whittled away the Terps' lead in the second half, keyed by a 14-point half by Leopard sophomore center Jennifer Bayer (Lowell, Ind./Lowell). The Leopards would get no closer than eight points, thanks to a good shooting by the Terps and solid defense, which caused 26 Lafayette turnovers during the game.
Bayer recorded her 14th career double-double and third of the season, collecting a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with a season-high 20 points. Also scoring in double figures for Lafayette was sophomore guard Kim Costello (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) with 11 points, including 3-of-7 shooting from three-point range. Senior guard Christel Rocha (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Catholic Central) added eight points and six assists.
The Leopards, which kicked off a tough four-game road swing with the loss to Maryland, are now off until a Jan. 2 date at George Mason. Following that, Lafayette will travel to Rider on Jan. 4, and Albany on Jan. 6.
