EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette has hired Jessica George as an assistant coach for the women's basketball program.
George spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at New Hampshire. During her tenure, she held various responsibilities that included player development, film study and game preparation and recruiting efforts. George was on a staff that guided New Hampshire to back-to-back playoff births for the first time since 2021-22.
"We are thrilled to add Jess to our staff," said head coach Ben O'Brien. "She has a strong background in recruiting, scouting and player development and is an exceptional relationship builder who understands what it takes to help student-athletes grow both on and off the court. We are excited to have her join our basketball family and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our players and program."
Prior to her stop at New Hampshire, George worked as a coach at her alma mater Massachusetts. Following a four-year playing career at Amherst, where she served as a team captain, she began her coaching career as the program's Director of Scouting and Video Operations. George was in charge of researching the opponent, producing film evaluations and coordinating recruiting materials. Her preparation helped cap off the 2020-21 season with an appearance in the WNIT.
After one season, the native of Waldorf, Md. was promoted to the role of director of basketball operations, which included handling day-to-day responsibilities, overseeing the team budget and maintaining relationships with team partners. In two seasons in her role, George contributed to a squad that reached new heights. During the 2021-22 campaign, Massachusetts won the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and moved on to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998. George and Massachusetts captured even more success the following year, becoming Atlantic 10 Regular Season Co-Champions and securing another spot in the WNIT.
George served as UMass' director of player development from 2023-24, building individualized training programs for players that included film review and on-court workouts. George also worked on practice and game preparation while also assisting in recruiting and program operations.
George graduated from Massachusetts in 2019, receiving her bachelor of science degree in sport management.
