In the second game of a Patriot League doubleheader, freshman Whitney Cooper (Trumbull, Conn.) pitched three innings of relief to pick up her first college victory as Lafayette (6-16, 4-6 Patriot League) came back to win, 11-9.
Trailing 5-1 in the third inning, junior Gina Galati (McMurray, Pa./Cannon-McMillan) got the Leopards back into the game with a three-run home run.
Freshman Becky Foley (Jamison, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a pair of runs. Shainheit went 2-for-4, while junior Becky Chmielowski (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) was 4-for-4 with one run scored.
Colgate (18-22, 3-5 Patriot League) was led in the two games by first baseman Melissa Rawson, who went 4-for-7 with three RBIs and three runs, including a 3-for-3 performance in the second game.
Also starring on the day for Lafayette was sophomore right fielder Kelly Wise (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), who went 6-for-7 with two runs and one RBI in the two games.
Lafayette hosts St. Peter's this Wednesday in the final home game of the regular season. It will be senior recognition day at Metzgar Fields.
