Softball Shutout in First of Two With Army

April 8, 2000

WEST POINT, NY - Lafayette was shut out in the first game of a doubleheader with Army on Saturday.

Neither team scored in the first two innings, but the Cadets bats warmed up in the Army half of the third. Third baseman Jennifer Knowlden blasted a grand slam to left center, which added to the Cadets's first run of the inning which scored on an error by the catcher.

The Cadets' got on the board again in the fifth. Army cranked out five hits in the inning, including a Nicole Robbins' triple and four singles which led to three runs.

The three-run fifth ended the game due to an eight-run mercy rule used in Patriot League play.

Army starting pitcher Sarah Hatton gave up just two Lafayette hits in the five innings, those coming to junior Gina Galati (McMurray, PA/Canon-McMillan) and sophomore Liz Siliato (San Francisco, CA/Phillips Andover).

Senior Erin Hall (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) took the loss for the Leopards, pitching 4 1/3 innings while giving up 10 hits.
