NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Sophomore Emily Myers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) scored three goals in the second half, including the game-winner, to lead Lafayette to a 5-1 come-from-behind win over Niagara on Tuesday in women's soccer action.
The Leopards surrendered a Rosie Luzak goal at 32:55 in the first half and went into the locker room trailing 1-0. Lafayette turned it up a notch in the final stanza, scoring five unanswered goals to win going away.
Myers got the scoring going at 63:55 off an assist from sophomore Bryn Carlson (Portland, Maine/Deering). Less than two minutes later, Myers struck again for what ended as the game-winner. Freshman Kristen Quigley (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) fed Myers at 65:30 to put Lafayette up 2-1.
Carlson, who assisted on the Leopards' first goal of the game, participated on the business end of Lafayette's third goal, when she took a pass from junior Kristy Buechele (Marlton, N.J./Holy Cross) and booted it in the back of the net at 70:45. Quigley scored her first collegiate goal at 78:19 off an assist from Myers.
Myers finished off her seven-point performance with an unassisted tally at 82:05 to put the final at 5-1. For the day, Lafayette outshot Niagara 20-15, with Myers accounting for nine of the shots.
Sophomore Ashley Wesmiller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) made nine saves in goal for Lafayette, while allowing just one goal. Rayanne Roman made six saves in the loss after allowing four goals in just over 78 minutes of play.
Lafayette improves to 5-4, while Niagara drops below .500 at 4-5. The Leopards return to action on Thursday when they travel to Rider for a second of four straight games vs. MAAC opponents.
