ANNAPOLIS, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - A 13-0 run to start the second half keyed the Navy women's basketball team to a 77-62 victory over Lafayette, Wednesday night at Alumni Hall. The victory improves Navy's record to 6-10, 1-1 in the Patriot League, while the Leopards fell to 4-12 and 0-3, respectively.
The Midshipmen started the game by jumping out to a 16-8 lead, with Jennifer Bombinski and Courtney Davidson combining for 14 of Navy's 16 points. The Leopards responded by scoring eight straight points themselves and cutting the Navy advantage to 18-16. The Mids again built up their lead to as many as nine points and went into the locker room at halftime with a 38-33 lead.
The Midshipmen took control of the game over the first three minutes of the second half, scoring the first 13 points of the half and taking a 51-33 lead. Bombinski and Davidson again sparked the Navy run, with Bombinski hitting a three-point field goal, a 15-foot jump shot and a free throw, with Davidson adding a three-pointer, as well. After the Leopards scored to make the score 51-35, Bombinski hit two more free throws and added her third three-point field goal of the game to start yet another run and give the Mids a 59-37 lead.
The Midshipmen shot 53-percent from the field in the second half, as well as a season-high 50-percent for the game, while the Leopards shot 42-percent from the field for the game. Navy outrebounded Lafayette, 36-28, and drilled seven three-point field goals to just four for the Leopards.
Davidson was the leading scorer in the game with a career-high 24 points, and tied for the team-lead in rebounds with a career-high seven rebounds. Bombinski was seven-of-nine from the field and three-of-five from behind the three-point line for a career-high tying 21 points to go along with six rebounds. Also contributing on both ends of the floor tonight was Adrienne Roseti with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Christina LiVecchi scored 11 points to lead Lafayette, with Colleen Fitzpatrick and Christel Rocha each adding 10 points.
Lafayette returns home for a three-game home stand starting with Pennsylvania this Saturday at 1 p.m.
