BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's indoor track and field went to battle with Lehigh on Saturday but fell for the second-straight year to the rival Mountain Hawks, 95-86.
Freshman Mashall Morrison (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) continued his dominance in the sprint events this season with a first place finish in the 60m dash while classmate Kris Carey (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) earned a first place finish in the 60m hurdles. Jon Apostoles (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) won the 400m run, Brian Meyers (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) took the 500m and Jim Fischer (Dumont, N.J./Bergen Catholic) won the shot put and the weight throw, but it was not enough to pull out the victory.
"It was a great meet, unfortunately our men lost, but it certainly proves the old adage that all games are a battle of inches," said head coach Julio Piazza. "A distance of an inch and a half in the men's long jump turned out to be the difference between winning and losing for us.
"We were the underdogs going into the meet and I thought we had a great chance for an upset. Our kids battled hard and if it weren't for that inch and a half in the long jump, we would have come out on top."
The Leopards head to East Stroudsburg on Feb. 4 for an invitational meet.
