EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team came out firing versus Colgate but fell 3-1 to the Raiders.
The Leopards were strong in the first game leading by as many as four before clinching their first game at home 30-27. Lafayette fought for control in the second game, falling 30-21. Colgate gained more rhythm as the match went on, holding on for a 30-28 win in the third game and taking the final game 30-13.
Lafayette was led by freshman Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) who knocked down 15 kills while sophomore Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) picked up 17 digs while adding 13 kills for the match.
Junior co-captain Sarah Deitsch (Forwood, N.J./Old Tappan) was solid defensively for Lafayette, picking up a season-high 14 digs. Setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) dished out 36 assists for the match, bringing her season total to 372.
Colgate was led by Elizabeth Aron with 20 kills, Amy Rawson with 57 assists, and Amanda Routman with 19 digs. The Raiders improved to 9-13 overall and 3-5 in league play and will travel to Lehigh tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. match.
Lafayette (0-22, 0-8) hosts Bucknell tomorrow night in a Patriot League showdown at 7 p.m.
