Leopards Fall In First Round Of Binghamton Tournament

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Binghamton University women's basketball team (2-1) rolled to a 72-49 victory over Lafayette College (0-3) in Saturday's first-round of the BU Time Warner Classic, played in West Gym. The Bearcats will face Morehead State (Ky.) in Sunday's 3 p.m. championship game. Morehead State (3-0) defeated Long Island University (1-2), 82-79, in the day's first game.

Binghamton scored the game's first 15 points and opened up a 35-15 halftime bulge against the Leopards, who hit just 6-of-22 shots and committed 15 turnovers in the first half. Senior forward Leah Truncale registered a double-double with a game-high 13 points and 12 rebounds. Lafayette was led by junior forward Elizabeth Rojahn, who tallied 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

In the first game of the day, Morehead State rode 53% shooting to an 82-79 win over LIU. The Lady Eagles put six players in double digits, led by junior forward Travece Turner, who scored 18 points with five rebounds. Morehead also received 15 points from senior center Frances Montgomery and 14 points from senior forward Tasha Gales.

Morehead led 36-28 at half and stretched the margin to as many as 14 midway through the second half before LIU closed the gap. The Blackbirds closed to within three, 70-67, with 4:08 left, but Morehead sank 10-of-13 free throws in the final 2:26 to seal the win.

Lafayette will face LIU in the consolation game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25.
