Leopard Women's Basketball Wins Home Opener

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - In its home debut, the Lafayette women's basketball team fought back from a 12-point second half deficit to defeat Rider 75-72. Elizabeth Rojahn scored a season-high 18 points and ripped down a career-high 10 rebounds to pace the Leopards.

The Leopards (1-4) took an early lead until Rider began hitting from beyond the arc on its way to a 6-of-13 three-point mark in the first session. The lead switched hands seven times before the Broncs took the lead over at 31-30 with 5:21 left in the half off a layup by Lauren Thomer. Rider led by as many as nine points before Lafayette's Jennifer Bayer hit two free throws and a layup to put the Leopards within six trailing 43-37 at halftime.

Rider opened the second half by increasing its lead to 12 off a three-pointer from Kathleen Kearon who went 2-3 from behind the arc. Laurie Infantino rallied the Leopards with two three-pointers as Lafayette tied the game 65-65 with 5:02 remaining.

The Leopards increased their slim lead to four on a Kim Costello layup at 3:33, but the Broncs' Kearon made two free throws to cut the lead to 69-67 at 2:22.

Lafayette freshman Lindsay Myers' fifth steal of the game led to a jumper that gave the Leopards a 73-67 advantage with 38 seconds left. Two foul shots by Megan Haughey sealed the Leopards' first win of the season. Rider falls to 0-4 overall.

Rojahn added a career-high six assists while posting her first double-double of the season. Myers finished with a career-high eight points, 10 boards and five steals in the second start of her collegeiate career. Sophomore Colleen Fitzpatrick pounded in 11 points and pulled in nine rebounds.

For the Broncs, Katie Hall led with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds while Kearon posted 14 points on the night.

Lafayette hits the road to face Ivy League foe Princeton on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
