Lafayette vs. Fordham Post-Game Quotes

Nov. 3, 2001

Recap?|? Final Stats

FORDHAM

Head Coach Dave Clawson: I'm very happy with this win. Lafayette is a quality football team, there's no difference in how we've played this year, but their early season schedule was tougher than ours. They have a great quarterback and a big play offense and to come here and get a league win on the road is a big step for our program.

It just became a matter of what they did defensively. If you load for the run, they leave their corners out on islands, if not, you're vulnerable against the run. It became a guessing game, on what the defense did and what we did. On defense, we played the guessing game that we'd have to stop Glavic. McCourt came in and hit us early and we had to defend the run and load up the box a little more. They sustained the ball well on the first drive of the game and that scared us a little, because that's just how they started off against Bucknell. We really loaded up against the run, which exposed us a bit in the passing game, but I feel we made them a one-dimensional offense. Our biggest drive was after the punt when it was 31-24. It was a long drive that took a lot of time off the clock and put us back in the driver's seat for the rest of the game.

LAFAYETTE

Head Coach Frank Tavani: We are very disappointed. This was our last game at Fisher Field for our seniors that have given so much to this team.

Fordham has been an opportunistic team all year and took advantage of our turnovers. We have certainly had our share of bad things, but we deal with it and tomorrow is another day. We've got two more weeks to go and two more contests to play.

To give up 44 points to that team and hold others to less is certainly disappointing. I was concerned when we came out after half time because we were flat. We lost the fire.

In order to make the right play call we have to make some changes. We lost two linemen, which certainly set up back a bit. I thought we regrouped after halftime and established the run for the second half.

Sophomore WR John Weyrauch: I think it's frustrating when you lose, especially since we have been so close in so many games. We need to concentrate on the upcoming game against Georgetown and forget about the past.

Freshman TB Joe McCourt: I am definitely angry. I don't think I have ever lost this many games in one season in my life. We have had so many opportunities and it seems like something keeps holding us back. It is real frustrating. We have two games left, and we will try to go out with a bang.
