EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Mark Karney passed for five touchdowns, three of them to Javarus Dudley, to lead Fordham to a 45-24 win over Lafayette on Saturday in Patriot League football action.
Fordham (4-4, 3-2) and Lafayette were tied at the half, but Fordham pulled away in the third quarter with two touchdowns and added two more in the fourth to seal the game.
Lafayette took an early 7-0 lead, scoring on its first possession on an 11-yard pass from Marko Glavic to John Weyrauch to cap a 15-play, 80-yard drive. Brian Colosant brought Fordham within four at 4:27 in the first quarter on a 30-yard field goal.
In the second quarter, a 35-yard strike from Glavic to Weyrauch gave Lafayette a 14-3 lead at 14:53. The Leopards' advantage did not last for long, as Fordham managed two scores. Fordham QB Carney hit Wallace House who took it to the house on a juggling two-yard touchdown reception.
After Lafayette was forced to punt, Fordham quickly rang up another score, this time a 13-yard slant pass from Carney to Javarus Dudley that gave Fordham a 17-14 lead with 6:06 left in the half. Carney completed 23-of-31 passes for 282 yards.
Lafayette tied the game, 17-17, just before half on Martin Brecht's 24-yard field goal.
The third quarter momentum was decisively in Fordham's favor, as the Rams scored two touchdowns, held Lafayette scoreless and knocked Glavic from the game with a mild concussion. A one-yard pass from Karney to Travis Johnson and a four-yard run by Dudley gave Fordham a 31-17 lead at the end of the quarter.
Lafayette made it interesting at the start of the final quarter. Backup QB Chad Ritchie hit Weyrauch for his third touchdown reception of the game, this time a 19-yard toss that put the score at 31-24. Weyrauch finished the day with eight catches for 121 yards.
The Fordham offense continued to roll in the final minutes of the game with Dudley added two more touchdown receptions, a nine-yard catch and a 36-yard catch. Dudley ended the game with 10 catches for 136 yards, four TD receptions and one rushing TD.
Lafayette (1-7, 0-5) is on the road for its final two games, traveling to Georgetown next Saturday and then on to Lehigh. Fordham travels to Towson next Saturday.
INJURY UPDATE -- Lafayette OL Jim Brown (sprained knee), QB Marko Glavic (concussion), FL Andrew May (strained calf) and OL Kevin Moss (sprained ankle) were all injured during the game and did not return to action. Each is probable for the Georgetown game next Saturday.
