EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Senior forward Elise Palac grabbed an offensive rebound and scored the putback basket with :35 remaining in the game to seal Lafayette's win over Navy Sunday at the A.P. Kirby Sports Center. She nailed the Navy coffin shut on a pair of free throws with :18 remaining, giving Lafayette the 64-59 victory.
Lafayette (7-16, 3-6 PL) went into the break up by two points at 31-29 but the lead flip-flopped throughout the Patriot League matchup and neither team could get ahead by more than six points in the second half. But the Leopards scored 38 points in the paint while Navy managed only 12 and shot just 36.5 percent from the floor.
The Midshipmen (7-16, 3-6 PL) were held to just 59 points on the Leopards' home court, 15 points below their average of 74.0 per game for the season.
Palac finished the game with a career-high 12 points while two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week Colleen Fitzpatrick finished scored 13. Jennifer Bayer recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Navy's Maile Shimoda had the game-high with 19 points on 5-for-9 shooting from three-point range but she was the only Mid able to score in double figures.
Lafayette takes a break from its Patriot League slate when it hosts America East foe Drexel on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
