ANNAPOLIS, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's indoor track and field team wrapped up its season in team competitions with a sixth place finish at the Patriot League Championships at Navy on Sunday. Army was the meet's champion, finishing with a total of 212 points, followed by Bucknell (126.50), Lehigh (81), Navy (79.50), Colgate (64), Lafayette (43) and Holy Cross (14).
Several Leopards turned in top finishes on the third and final day of competition, led by freshman Machel Morrison's first place finish in the 55m dash with a time of 6.42. The time was good enough to qualify Morrison for the event at the IC4A Championships this season.
Senior Brian Meyers was the runner-up in the 500m final with a time of 1:05.93 and the one mile relay team turned in a second place finish, running the distance in 3:20.90, and qualifying for the IC4A championships.
Senior Jon Apostoles finished third in the 200m final (22.44) while teammate Herb Kennedy finished in a tie for 10th in the event (22.81). Junior Jim Fischer finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 50'10" while qualifying for the IC4A championships, and sophomore James Mangarillo placed 10th in the event (45'1/4").
Freshman Reginald Clay had a strong seventh place finish in the 800m run in a time of 1:58.28.
Next up for the Leopards is the IC4A Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass., on March 3-4. Only those who have met the IC4A time and distance requirements this season will be competing in the event.
