Women's Basketball Drops Regular Season Closer to Colgate

Feb. 24, 2001

Box Score

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Colgate (6-21, 3-9 Patriot League) forward Colleen McCaffrey had a career-high 29 points as the Red Raiders beat Lafayette 62-53 Saturday at Kirby Sports Center. The game was the last of the regular season for both squads and placed the teams in a tie for the final seed heading into the Patriot League Tournament next weekend.

Lafayette (7-20, 3-9 Patriot League) played without its third leading scorer as Colleen Fitzpatrick was out with a concussion suffered in the first half of the Leopards' game at Army on Wednesday. The team fell behind 35-26 at halftime, despite shooting 48 percent from the floor.

The Leopards didn't lay down, however, as they battled back to within five points with three minutes remaining on a Christel Rocha three-pointer from the corner. McCaffrey, however, scored three consecutive buckets to put the game out of reach.

Junior co-captain Samaiyah Council was Lafayette's offensive answer on the afternoon, tying her career-high with 16 points on five-of-seven from the floor, as well as six-of-eight from the line. Colgate's Laura Rohrbacher scored 13 points and grabbed 10 boards.

The Leopards head to Annapolis, Md., for the Patriot League Tournament on March 2-3. The team's seeding depends on the outcome of the Holy Cross-Army and Lehigh-Navy games today.
