Women's Basketball Streak Halted By Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Three Lehigh players scored in double figures as the team halted Lafayette's two-game winning streak with a 78-47 victory over the visiting Leopards on Saturday. Lafayette (6-15, 2-5) dropped both of its regular season meetings with the Mountain Hawks, falling at home on Jan. 10.

The Leopards jumped out to a 2-0 lead before falling behind to Lehigh (11-10, 4-3) in the early minutes. Lafayette was able to get ahead at 11-10 before the Mountain Hawk surge began and by halftime, the Lehigh advantage was 12 points at 36-24.

Lehigh went on a 9-0 run to surge ahead early in the second half and never looked back. Sara Hessel netted 18 points, Gina Zang scored 13 and Anne Tierney added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Mountain Hawks.

The Leopards struggled to gain points all evening, shooting only 15-of-61 (.246) for the contest. Lehigh, on the other hand, shot .533 in the game and outrebounded its archrival, 49-35.

Freshman Colleen Fitzpatrick scored a career-high 22 points but was the only Leopard to score in double figures.

Lafayette wraps up its three-game road conference swing with a trip to Bucknell on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. and will be followed by the men's matchup.
