Men's Track Finishes Strong at East Stroudsburg Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's indoor track and field team made a strong showing at the Second Annual Dick Deschriver Inviational Sunday at East Stroudsburg University. Seven Leopards finished in the top six in their respective events while the 4x400 relay team of Jon Apostoles, Herb Kennedy, Sejour Hensley and Alvin Lyte set a new meet record with a time of 3:23.68.

Apostoles also finished second in the 200 dash with a time of 22.56 while Kennedy finished fifth in 22.68. Senior Brian Meyers earned a fifth place finish in the 400 dash (50.11) and classmate Chris Therkorn finished in a tie for fifth in the 500 dash (1:07.42).

Other Leopards with strong finishes at the meet were freshmen Reggie Clay, who placed sixth in the 800 run (2:03.00), and Carlos Garcia who finished fifth in the mile run (4:32.33).

"Coming off of the Lehigh meet, the athletes faced a double challenge to prepare to meet at ESU," head coach Julio Piazza said. "They were coming off a big emotional week at Lehigh and we were working very hard before we started our preparation for the league championships."

Other teams participating in the invitational included Essex Community College, Sacred Heart, Kutztown, Monmouth, Lock Haven, Moravian, Rider, Montclair, Shippensburg, William Paterson, Cortland, Muhlenberg and East Stroudsburg.

The Leopards head to New York on Feb. 9 to compete in the Fordham Invitational.
