Men's Lacrosse Knocks Off Villanova, 11-6

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team opened its 2001 home schedule with an impressive 11-6 win over Villanova on Wednesday at Metzgar Fields. The Leopards jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the first period and never looked back.

Lafayette senior Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass./Governor Dummer) scored a career-high six goals and added an assist to lead the Leopards over the Wildcats. Leopard sophomore Pat Lennon (Darien, Conn./Darien) added a career-high four goals in the victory, while classmate Mike Fiorillo (Bayvile, N.Y./Locust Valley) chipped in with one goal. Senior Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) assisted on two goals.

Lafayette goalkeeper Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn./St. George's), who ranked 13th in the nation last season in goals against average, was outstanding again in the Leopards' net. The senior goalie played all 60 minutes and notched 23 saves in the victory.

Villanova saw its six goals scored by six different individuals. The Marks brothers led the charge as Brian Marks had a goal and an assist, and Justin Marks assisted on two goals. The only other Wildcat with more than one point in the contest was Michael Holloway with a goal and an assist.

Lafayette remains at home this Saturday afternoon to host preseason Patriot League favorite Hobart at 1 p.m. The Leopards then begin a three-game road trip with stops at 14th-ranked Pennsylvania, St. Joseph's, and Bucknell.
