Softball Swept By Penn With Game Two Loss, 4-3

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - In game two of a doubleheader against Pennsylvania the Lafayette softball team (1-11) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but fell 4-3 to the Quakers at the end of the sixth, when the game was called for darkness.

A wild pitch by Penn's Nicole Borgstadt scored Mara Shainheit (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley), who had reached on a walk, for the Leopards' first score. Elizabeth Lucisano (Levittown, Pa./Villa Joesph Marie) flied out but was able to drive in Kelly Wise (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), who had singled in the inning, for Lafayette's second run.

The Quakers (6-10) opened the second inning with a double by Erin O'Brien, who cut the lead to one when she scored on consecutive singles by teammates Danielle Landolt and Jamie Pallas. Penn added another run to knot the contest in the top of the fifth inning when Clarisa Apostol scored on a flyout to left field by Veronica Richardson.

Penn squeaked out its last run in the top of the sixth when Crista Farrell scored off a triple by Deborah Kowalchuk.

Lafayette freshman pitcher Megan Longo was replaced on the mound after three innings due to injury and was replaced by Mollie Moschberger, who picked up the loss.

Wise went 1-for-3 and Shainheit went 1-for-2 for the Leopards.

The Leopards face their second straight Ivy League opponent of the season on Saturday as they host a doubleheader against Columbia at noon.
