EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette dropped game one of a doubleheader against the visiting Lions of Columbia on Saturday, 14-1, in softball action at Metzgar Fields.
Freshman pitcher Danielle Fecso (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) opened the game with consecutive strikeouts but it was Columbia's Allison Buehler who ruled the day on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out 13 on the afternoon.
Columbia (7-6) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning with four hits and the help of two wild pitches. The Lions managed another run an inning later but Lafayette (1-12) got its lone score of the game when Mara Sheinheit (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) scored on a wild pitch.
The Lions went on a nine-run tear in the fourth inning off hits by Danielle Capece, Stephanie Reeder, April Jarvis, Allison Buehler (2) and Emily Doyle (2).
Shainheit went 1-for-3 in the game while Laura Schrager (Montclair, N.J./Monclair-Kimberly Academy) and Kelly Wise (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) were each 1-for-2 for Lafayette.
