Columbia (7-7) and Lafayette traded runs in the first inning to be knotted at 1-1 before the Lions went up 2-1 in the second.
Lafayette (2-12) came back to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth with the help of three wild pitches that scored Erin Allison (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster), Laura Schrager (Montclair, N.J./Monclair-Kimberly Academy) and Mara Shainheit (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) along with hits from Heather Danchak (Clarks Summit, Pa./Lakeland), Shainheit, Elizabeth Lucisano (Levittown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Becky Chmielowski (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) to put the Leopards up 6-2.
The Lions had a two-out rally in the sixth, with runs coming in off hits from Danielle Capece, who doubled for one RBI, and Anne Marie Ebner who singled for two RBI, bringing the score to 6-5.
The Leopards were able to hold off a seventh inning comeback when Capece hit a ball down the third base line with the bases loaded and two outs that hit her teammate, Stephanie Reeder, on Reeder's way home to end the game.
Freshman Mollie Moschberger (2-3) (Fairhaven, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) picked up the win for Lafayette, allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out six.
Lafayette hits the road to Delaware State on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
