EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team fell to Stony Brook 14-8 on Wednesday at Metzgar Fields.
The Leopards opened the scoring when senior Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) notched his ninth goal of the season on an assist from junior Ted Blackburn (Sea Cliff, N.J./North Shore). At 4:40 left in the first quarter, Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass./Governor Dummer) found the back of the net on his 23rd of the season. Despite his unassisted effort, Lafayette found itself down 3-2 at the end of the first quarter off Stony Brook goals from Denis Scannell and Matt Toner.
Bromby,who was ranked second in all of Division I in goals per game, rounded out the game with three goals for a team high 25 on the season.
Midfielder Matt Prevost (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) scored his third goal of the season to bring the Leopards within one in the second quarter, 3-4. However, the Seawolves would score three goals in the last five minutes to go ahead 7-4 at the half.
Lafayette picked up its offensive game in the third quarter, outscoring Stony Brook 3-2 off goals from Pat Lennon (Darien, Conn./Dareien), Drew Weisman (Meguon, Wis./Avon Old Farms), and Bromby. Stony Brook fought back to lead 9-7 entering the fourth quarter.
The last 15 minutes belonged to the Seawolves, as they outscored the Leopards 5-1 on a pair of goals from Kevin Pall who led Stony Brook with four on the day.
Senior goalkeeper Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn./St. George's) recorded 13 saves between the posts and moves his season total to 108.
Remaining Leopard points were scored by sophomore Mike Fiorillo (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who tallied his third goal of the season, and Battle who handed out an assist in the second quarter.
Lafayette (2-5, 0-2) will return to action at home on Saturday hosting Patriot League foe Colgate at 2 p.m.
