Men's Lax Topples Holy Cross, 15-12

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Senior Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass./Governor Dummer) scored six goals to lead the Lafayette men's lacrosse team to a 15-12 win over Holy Cross on Saturday at Metzgar Fields.

Lafayette jumped out to a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to goals by Bromby, Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) and Matt Prevost (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga). Holy Cross' lone tally came from Mark Tarnuzzer at 9:58.

Lafayette added to its momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Holy Cross 5-2 to take an 8-3 halftime lead. Bromby added two more goals in the period along with tallies from Prevost and Drew Stotler (Westfield, N.J./Westfield).

In the third quarter, Lafayette kept its five-goal lead intact. Ted Blackburn (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore), Battle and Stotler all contributed goals for the Leopards.

Holy Cross made a late charge, scoring six goals in the final quarter. Greg Neufeld scored two goals with individual tallies coming from from Mark Wilson, Paul Washington and Rich Santoro. The final Holy Cross score came with one minute remaining, but Lafayette held on for the 15-12 victory.

Lafayette goalkeeper Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn./St. George's) made 13 saves in goal before giving way to backup keeper Mike Neary (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) who made five saves. Stefano DiStefano made nine saves in goal for Holy Cross.

Offensively, the Leopards were led by Bromby's six goals and a seven-point (3 G, 4 A) day from Battle. Stotler, Prevost and Blackburn also contributed three-point efforts.

Santoro led Holy Cross (1-10, 0-5) in points with eight, coming on two goals and six assists. He was one of four Holy Cross players with two goals.

Lafayette (5-5, 2-2) takes to the road next Saturday for a non-conference game at Sacred Heart.
