Lafayette Falls to Boston U., 13-2

Heaney and Doherty record goals

BOSTON, Mass. - Men's lacrosse dropped a 13-2 decision to Boston U. on Saturday at Nickerson field.

Timothy Shannehan finished as the Terriers' leader in points, racking up six from three goals and three assists. Jimmy Kohr paced Boston U. with four goals, while Andrew Pape tallied a hat trick.

Shannehan and the Terriers opened the game with a goal at 13:48, taking advantage of a Lafayette turnover for a 1-0 lead. The Maroon and White responded quickly, as Joshua Heaney's goal at the 10:21 mark knotted the score. Boston U. broke the tie four minutes later, with Pape scoring to retake a 2-1 advantage that held through the end of the period. In the first stanza, the Leopards were perfect on clears (7-7).

The two Patriot League foes showcased strong defense over the first six minutes of quarter two. Boston U. broke through at 8:52, courtesy of Kohr (3-1). Kohr's goal jumpstarted a stretch of four consecutive goals in favor of the hosts, with Pape and Tyler Fox adding scores of their own for a 5-1 score. Kohr's second goal of the stanza with 5:21 left in the first half pushed the advantage to 6-1. 

As the quarter ended, Boston U. took a five-goal lead into the break. In the first half, the Terriers claimed an advantage in shots on goal (10-5), ground balls (18-15) and faceoff wins (6-3).

Two goals from Kohr helped Boston U. in winning the third quarter, 3-1. Kohr's third score of the contest came at 13:51, granting the senior a hat trick (7-1). The Leopards answered two minutes later, as Joe Doherty took advantage of the Terriers' 10-man ride and launched the ball into the net (7-2). Boston U. countered with another goal from Kohr, pushing its lead to 8-2 with 8:12 on the clock. Ethan Hart added a score one minute after to make it 9-2 in favor of the hosts.

Shannehan (2), Pape and Mike Rooney combined for four goals in the last stanza to finalize the 13-2 outcome. The Terriers claimed an advantage in shots, with 44 to the Leopards' 30. The hosts also racked up 16 caused turnovers. Lafayette committed 27 turnovers while being held to 15 shots on goal.

Faceoff specialist Nick Faccone won six of his 10 battles at the X, scooping up seven ground balls in the process. George Urich led the team in caused turnovers with two. Andrew Matarese earned one point, assisting on Doherty's goal.

Doherty was handed the loss with a .500 save percentage (13 saves, 13 goals allowed). Michael Allieri was the winning goalkeeper, stopping 12 shots while allowing just two goals (.857 save percentage).

The Maroon and White return home to Fisher Stadium on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with rival Lehigh. The game will serve as the regular-season finale for the Leopards and the program's senior day.
