CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (www.lafayette.edu) - Five men's track competitors finished in the top six to lead Lafayette to a seventh place finish at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational on Saturday at the University of Virginia Invitational.
The day was highlighted by a Lafayette win the in 4x100 meter relay. The Leopards beat out seven other teams and clocked a time of 41.65 to take first place.
Ethan Blose (Monroeville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Mashal Morrison (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) tied for the top Lafayette overall finishes on the day. Blose placed third in the javelin with a throw of 200'10". Morrison ended third in the 100 meters in 10.96. He finished two places ahead of Herb Kennedy (Troy, N.Y./Troy) who ran a time of 11:01.
Jim Fischer (Dumont, N.J./Bergen Catholic) finished fifth in the shot put and discus, throwing the shot 48'4 3/4" and the discus 152'7".
Kennedy and Jon Apostoles (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) both placed in the top eight in the 200 meters to earn points for the Leopards, finishing with times of 22:22 and 22:23, respectively. Jon Farkas (Oaklyn, N.J./Collinswood) finished in the points in the 400 meters in a time of 49:04.
The Leopards fared well in the distance events. Art Lathers (Dennisville, N.J./Middle Township) and Ken Poli (Darien, Conn./Darien) placed fifth and seventh, respectively. Lathers ran a 15:59.37 and Poli a 16:04.16.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase Nick Groch (Havertown, Pa./St. Joseph Prep) finished fifth in 9:41.69.
In the jumping events, Chris Nixon (Perrineville, N.J./Peddie School) placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 35'4". Andy Maurer (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) used a leap of 6'0" to tie for seventh in the high jump. Mark Brault (York, Maine/York) finished seventh in the pole vault with a 15'1" effort.
The Leopards return home for the Lafayette Invitational on Saturday at Fisher Field.
