Box Score

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's hope to split a home doubleheader with Wagner after a 6-4 loss in game one was dashed as the second game was called in the fifth inning due to rain.

The Leopards (7-26) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one, sparked by a Mara Shainheit (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) walk and a single by Laura Schrager (Montclair, N.J./Montclair-Kimberly Academy) to start the inning. Becky Chmielowski (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Kelly Wise (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) picked up the RBI, sending Shainheit home with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Wagner (11-19-2) got two runs in the second inning, started by consecutive singles from Natalie Stollmeyer and Diane Weisheit. Stacy Veech singled in the next at-bat, driving in Stollymeyer for a 1-1 tie. Jessica VanManen picked up the second RBI of the inning, singling to rightfield and scoring Veech.

The visitors added two more runs in the third inning as Tracie Hulbert hit a two-run two-out triple for a 4-1 lead.

The Leopards answered with two of their own runs in the bottom of the fourth when Liz Lucisano (Levittown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) drove in two runs with a double to centerfield to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Seahawks added another run in the fifth, when freshman pitcher Mollie Moschberger (Fairhaven, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven), who had relieved classmate Danielle Fecso (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) at the top of the inning, allowed Amanda Bongiorno to score on consecutive wild pitches.

Wagner added its last run of the game in the seventh, getting an RBI single from Stollmeyer to score Lynn Shortway who had singled to start the inning to give the team a 6-3 lead.

Lafayette managed one more run in the bottom of the seventh as Wise hit an RBI double to center field, driving in Schrager for the final run of the game and the 6-4 margin of defeat.

Krystle Petty picked up the win for the Seahawks, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out four in seven innings.

Fecso earned the loss for Lafayette as she continues to look for her first win of the season (0-6).

Lafayette hits the road to face Bucknell in back-to-back Patriot League doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
