EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Senior Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass./Governor Dummer) led the Lafayette men's lacrosse team past Marist with four goals and two assists in the 10-6 victory at Metzgar Fields.
In the first-ever night game for the lacrosse team, six seniors were honored before the home crowd for their contribution over the past four years, including Bromby, Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School), Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn./St. George's), Matt Belson (Hull, Mass./Cohasset), Rob Bradfield (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Drew Stotler (Westfield, N.J./Westfield).
The Leopards took the lead 1-0 just :33 seconds into the game off a goal by sophomore Mike Fiorillo (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who turned in his sixth tally of the season. Marist (4-7) tied the game at 1-1 off an unassisted effort from Jay Nahama who led the Red Foxes with two goals on the day. Battle notched his 21st goal of the season a minute later off an assist from sophomore Lexie Lewis (Rockville, Md./Westminster) to put the `Pards ahead 2-1. At just under five minutes left in the first quarter, Marist tied the match at 2-2 off an unassisted goal by Nahama.
Lewis opened the scoring for Lafayette in the second quarter by notching his first career goal to put the Leopards ahead 3-2. Bromby found the back of the net twice in the second quarter as the `Pards took control offensively to lead by at least a goal for the rest of the match.
Lafayette dominated in the face-off category with junior David Crean (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) winning ten of the twelve face-offs for the Leopards at midfield. Woodard chipped in defensively in goal by posting ten saves to bring him to a season total of 183.
Remaining Leopard points were turned in by Ted Blackburn (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) who scored on an unassisted effort in the fourth quarter, as well as Stotler, Pat Lennon (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Drew Weisman (Meguon, Wis./Avon Old Farms) who each recorded an assist in the match.
Lafayette (6-6, 2-2) will travel to West Point, N.Y., to face nationally-ranked Army on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They will close out the season in Bethlehem versus Lehigh on May 5 at 1 p.m.
