EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Jim Fischer (Dumont, N.J./Bergen Catholic) won three of the four throwing events to lead the Leopards, but Lehigh held on for a 105-98 team victory in the Lafayette-Lehigh Dual in track and field action on Saturday at Fisher Field.
Fischer claimed victories in the discus (136'10"), hammer (157'0") and shot put (46'11 1/2") and also took sixth place in the javelin (109' 6 1/2") for the Leopards. Ethan Blose (Monroeville, Pa./Franklin Regional) finished second in the javelin (191'2 1/2") and the discus (136'10") to round out a solid day for the Lafayette throwers.
In the jumps, Andy Maurer (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) took home a first place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6'3".
Kristopher Karey (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) claimed the 110 high hurdle victory in 14.8 seconds. John Farkas (Oaklyn, N.J./Collinswood) and Alvin Lyte (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) went 1-2 in the 400 meters. Marshal Morrison (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College), Herb Kennedy (Troy, N.Y./Troy) and Jon Apostoles (Londonberry, N.H./Londonberry) took the top three spots in the 100 meters. The trio repeated the feat in the 200 with Apostoles in first (21.8) followed by Kennedy and Morrison.
The Lafayette relays also enjoyed success, winning both the 4x100 (41.8) and the 4x400 (3:20).
The Lafayette track and field team returns to action on April 14, competing in the University of Virginia Invitational and the Millersville Decathlon.
