EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Penn used 159 yards rushing from Kris Ryan and 226 yards passing from quarterback Gavin Hoffman to post a 37-0 win over Lafayette on Saturday at Fisher Field.
Penn (1-0) took the early lead in the first quarter when Hoffman hit Ryan Murray for an 18-yard pass at 9:14. The play capped a six-play, 62-yard drive.
Hoffman threw two more touchdown passes on the day, including a four-yard toss to Colin Smith and an 18-yard hurl to Rob Milanese. Smith's score came at 10:24 in the second quarter. Milanese's touchdown reception gave the Quakers a 20-0 advantage at halftime.
Neither team could get any offense going in the third quarter, but Penn added three scores in the fourth. Ryan, whose 159-yard effort pushed him over 2,000 career rushing yards, punched in a six-yard run at 12:04 to give Penn a 27-0 lead. Ryan has 2,057 career yards.
Penn added a Roman Galas field goal with 6:09 left and tacked on another score on a Jack Phillips' to Brian Adams touchdown pass at 1:20 to put the final at 37-0.
For Lafayette (0-2), senior linebacker Matt Bourdon was the star on the day. Bourdon picked off a pass in the first quarter and finished with seven tackles, including one for a loss.
Lafayette returns to action on Sept. 29 at Harvard while Penn travels to Dartmouth.
