Recap?|? Final Stats
Lafayette Coach Frank Tavani:
"Certainly knew Penn was a very good football team. We need to look at film and see what is happening out there. We never give up on attitude and it looked like some of the guys gave up out there today. That concerns me a little. I thought our defense played very, very well. The score could have been doubled if they hadn't played so well. We've got to put the pads back on tomorrow and get ready for Harvard."
"You try to measure your team on how they improve from game one to game two. We made some improvements but I am kind of concerned. We need to make plays when we have the opportunities and we didn't today. We tried to change the tempo with Chad (Ritchie). Tomorrow is a day of videos."
Senior Co-Captain Jim Brown:
(on playing with the thoughts of last week's tragedies) "It was hard to not think about that, but you have to step forward and get away from it a little. The coaches helped keep us focused."
Senior Matt Bourdon, Lafayette's Game Week Captain:
(on Penn TB Kris Ryan) "We watched a lot of film on him. From the film we knew he was pretty solid on turf but not as solid on grass. I thought once we got him on grass we could hold him pretty good. He got away from us a few times and burned us. Overall, he is a solid tailback."
Penn Coach Al Bagnoli:
"Yes, the no huddle offense was part of the game plan today. Lafayette caused some dramatic problems for us defensively, so we needed something to try and pick up the pace on offense and throw off their timing."
(on not kicking field goals in the red zone) "On his first play, our kicker hurt his ankle, so until our second kicker got loose with some chip shots and extra points, we felt like we had a better chance of going for it than putting our kicker in cold."
QB Gavin Hoffman:
"We put together a few nice drives than shot ourselves in the foot before it finally started to kick in. Once we got into the flow of things and began to work out some of the kinks it was a lot easier to move the ball. But it felt like we had a tough time scoring, and it was a struggle to move the ball every play. Kris made my job a lot easier, and Lafayette's defense had to be built around stopping him."
TB Kris Ryan:
"It felt good to get back out there and get reps at game speed. I hadn't played in a full scrimmage yet, so I wasn't sure how I'd perform."
LB Dan Morris:
"I didn't have a hard time getting into the flow. Lafayette didn't run what we expected them to, but once we got a few looks, saw what they were running and got in the game a little, things got a whole lot easier."
