EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Despite a balanced offensive attack and solid defensive play the Lafayette volleyball team fell to Patriot League foe Army 3-0 (30-26, 30-25, 30-24) on Friday night at Kirby Sports Center.
Once again, Lafayette (2-23, 0-10) matched its opponent point for point before falling short at the end of each game.
Sophomore Catherine Herchenroder (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) led the Leopards' offense with eight kills, spearheaded a solid team defensive effort with 17 digs and chipped in two service aces.
Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) and Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) each tallied six kills, and Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) notched 22 assists and nine digs for the Leopards.
Caitlin Machon paced Army (10-15, 4-6) with a .270 hitting percentage, and was the lone player to finish with double-digit kills with 15.
Lafayette plays host to its final Patriot League home contest against Holy Cross tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
