Nov. 23, 2002

Box Score

HAMDEN, Conn. (www.lafayette.edu) - Despite three Leopards scoring in double-figures, the Lafayette women's basketball team dropped its season opener to host Quinnipiac 80-64 on Saturday afternoon.

Junior co-captain Colleen Fitzpatrick led all Leopard scorers with 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting, and 7-for-8 from the foul line.

Lafayette started strong, jumping out to a seven point lead in the opening 10 minutes on the strength of an aggressive offensive attack and high percentage shooting from senior forward Liz Rojahn.

Quinnipiac slowly whittled into the Leopards' lead, and the Bobcats took a 34-29 advantage into halftime.

The Leopards got off to a slow start in the second-half but kept themselves within striking distance, going 17-for-23 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes.

In the end, Lafayette could not overcome Quinnipiac's inside and outside attack of Ashlee Kelly and Sara Esidore. Kelly finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Esidore tallied 19 points.

Lafayette's Rojahn finished with 11 points and sophomore guard Lindsay Myers added 14 points to go along with five assists.

Lafayette returns to Kirby Sports Center for its home opener on Tuesday against Sacred Heart at 7 p.m.
