NEW HAVEN, Conn. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's basketball team fell to 0-3 on the season after suffering a 74-49 road defeat to Ivy League opponent Yale University on Saturday.
Junior co-captain Colleen Fitzpatrick (Springfield, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame), who ranks in the Patriot League top-10 in field goal percentage, led the Leopards' offense with 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field.
The Leopards got off to a slow start, falling behind 27-14 in the opening 10 minutes. Unlike their first two games of the season, Lafayette could not recover and went to the locker room trailing 36-27.
Fitzpatrick and sophomore Lindsay Myers (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) each had eight first half points to lead Lafayette in that department.
The Bulldogs spread their scoring, and stretched their lead to double figures early in the second frame. Lafayette cut the Yale lead to as little as 10 at the 17-minute mark on a Liz Rojahn (York, Pa./Central York) turn around jump shot, but could get no closer.
Three Yale players finished in double figures, with Lindsay Morgan coming off the bench to lead the Bulldogs with 17 points. Guard Tory Mauseth added 15, including two big second half three pointers that thwarted any Lafayette momentum.
Myers, who ranks second in the Patriot League in assists, finished with three to go along with 10 points, four steals and two blocks.
Going into its game with Yale, Lafayette ranked third in the Patriot League in free throw percentage, and the Leopards improved their standing after shooting 12-for-17 from the foul line.
Lafayette returns home to square off against Northeast Conference foe Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Leopards and Knights have split their six prior meetings.
