EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's basketball team dropped a league game to Bucknell, 79-67, on Saturday at Kirby Sports Center.
Lafayette (3-18, 1-7) jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first half on a Lindsay Myers' jumper at 13:20. Bucknell scored the next seven points to tie the game 15-15 when Kate Rounsley converted 1-of-2 from the line. The score remained close until Bucknell's Molly Creamer took control of the Bison offense, scoring 11 points in the final five minutes on her way to a 17-point first half effort. Creamer hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give her team a 38-32 lead going into the break.
Bucknell (13-8, 6-2) began building its lead in the second half and led by an 18-point margin on Creamer's fourth trifecta of the day at 9:37. Lafayette ran into foul trouble in the second half and was without the services of Colleen Fitzpatrick (8:32) and Elizabeth Rojahn (6:20) who both fouled out. Myers managed nine points while playing every minute of the second half. Christina LiVecchi added eight points in 10 minutes of action in the closing session.
The Bison were aided by 24-of-26 shooting from the charity stripe and 48 percent shooting from the floor. Lafayette was 15-of-21 from the line and shot 45 percent from the floor for the game.
The Leopards return to action on Feb. 5 when they travel to Worcester, Mass., for a Patriot League matchup with Holy Cross. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
