GENEVA, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Hobart used a six goal second quarter and a 69-19 shot advantage for the game to register a 13-2 win over the Lafayette men's lacrosse team on Saturday in the Leopards' Patriot League opener.
The Statesmen got goals from 10 different players, including a hat trick from Tim Booth. Booth put Hobart (2-2, 1-1 PL) on the board midway through the opening quarter (8:58), finishing a feed from Nate Hill. Hill led all scorers with five points (1-4).
The Leopards (0-3, 0-1) pulled even three minutes later on the first of two goals by junior attackman Pat Lennon. Ted Blackburn assisted on the score.
The Leopards then went scoreless for the next 34 minutes as Hobart took control of the game and rattled off seven unanswered goals to build an 8-1 advantage by halftime. Booth put Hobart in front for good, just 61 seconds (5:01) after Lennon's tally.
The Statesmen added a pair of extra-man goals to start the second half scoring, before the Leopards finally broke the scoring drought with Lennon's goal at 1:38 in the third quarter.
Mike Neary recorded a season-high 23 stops for the Leopards while Mike Borsz and Dan Valente combined for 11 saves for Hobart.
Lafayette was outshot 69-19. The Statesmen held a 49-34 advantage on ground balls, and won 12-of-18 faceoffs.
Lafayette returns to action Wednesday at Stony Brook. The opening face off is slated for 3 p.m.
