Lafayette Men and Women Finish Second in Five-Way Meet

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette track and field teams both finished second in a five-way meet hosted by Lafayette on Saturday. The field also included Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, Rider and St. Joseph's.

Jim Fischer and Rob Baroska both won individual events for the Lafayette men. Fischer claimed the shot put (50' 4 1/2") and also finished third in the discus (155'1") and fifth in the hammer throw (145'11"). With his toss in the discus, Fischer qualified for the IC4A Championships. Baroska's win came in the high jump with a leap of 6'6".

Lafayette enjoyed other success in the jumping events. David Panther placed second in the triple jump (39'2 1/4"), while Mike Berginc took home third in the long jump (20' 2 1/2"). Greg Staszowksi registered a second place in the pole vault with an 11'10" effort.

In the throwing events, Ethan Blose took home second place in the javelin with a toss of 209' 3". The mark qualified him for the IC4A Championships and was the third best throw in school history.

Herb Kennedy placed second in the 100 meters in 10:91 and ended fourth in the 200 meters (21.96). Kristopher Carey took home third place in the 100 high hurdles, running a time of 15:14.

Carlos Garcia was the lone place winner in the men's distance events, recording a third place in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Garcia ran a time of 10:08.87 around the Fisher Field course.

The Lafayette women were strongest in the running events on Saturday. Lauren McHale earned victories in the 800m (2:18.65) and 1500m (4:49.41). Anna Sherman earned third place finishes in the 800m (2:19.48) and 1500m (4:53.25). Laura Nann ran to a first place in the 3000 meters, clocking a time of 10:21.10. In the sprints, Natalie Bosserman took home second place in the 400m in 57:64 and third in the 200m in 25:71. Bosserman's time in the 400 set a new school record, topping a mark (57:92) set by Jayne O'Brien in 1985.

The Lafayette 4x400 relay squad placed second in 3:59.43 and third in the 4x100 in 49:97.

Lafayette had at least one place winner in three of the jumping events. Beth Loretz placed first in the high jump with a 5'5" effort. Jennifer White ended third in 5'2". Lafayette also had two competitors place in the pole vault. Ambyr Craw won the event with a 11' vault. Olivia Tucinski finished third (10"). In the triple jump, Colleen Becker came home third with a leap of 34'9".

The Leopards took second and third in the javelin thanks to Maria Kinzel (127'1") and Jackie Bingham (114'4"). Bingham also placed second in the hammer (148'9"). Larissa Bellamy finished third in the shot put (39'8 3/4").

The Lafayette men and women return to action on Saturday vs. Lehigh beginning at 11:30 a.m.
