Softball Falls To Villanova

Villanova overpowered Lafayette in softball action on Thursday, sweeping the doubleheader 6-1 and 9-0 versus the Leopards.

In the second inning of game one, the Wildcats' Heather Garboden homered to right field to give Villanova a 2-0 lead. With two runner on base, Robin Flier doubled to center field to allow Kriste Romano to score for a 3-0 lead.

Lafayette got its' lone run of the day in the fifth inning when freshman Abby Weichert, who pinch ran for Becky Foley, scored on a wild pitch.

Villanova added three runs in the six inning including Garboden's second homer of the game to take the first game, 6-1.

Kelly Wise, Danielle Bernotsky and Liz Lucisano recorded hits for the Leopards.

In game two, strong pitching from the Wildcats' Shannon Williams held Lafayette to just one hit.

Villanova scored three runs in the first inning led by Allison Wisniewski's two RBI double to center field. Garboden followed with a double to left field, scoring Wisniewski for the 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats went on to score six runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 9-0 lead and retire the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wisniewski led Villanova with a 2-for-3 effort from the plate and three RBI. Sarah Wall was 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Laura Schrager recorded the Leopards' lone hit in game two.

Lafayette (2-19) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Bucknell in a Patriot League match up beginning at 1 p.m.
