EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -
The Leopard softball team dropped a pair of games to league foe Bucknell on Sunday at Metzgar Field. The Bison won game one, 11-0, behind an eight-run effort in the fifth inning before taking game two, 5-2. Lafayette fell to 3-22 overall and 2-10 in the Patriot League while Bucknell improved to 10-22 overall and 4-8 in league play.
Bucknell recorded 11 hits in the first four innings of play on its way to a 3-0 lead. A Lafayette pitching change in the fifth inning failed to quiet the Bison, who recorded eight runs in the fifth inning including a grand-slam home run from Angela Stackhouse.
Stackhouse led Bucknell on 4-of-4 hitting from the plate including five RBI while Barb Wood was 2-of-3 from the plate with two RBI on the day. Bucknell's Lauren Box earned the win on the mound with two strikeouts.
Lafayette's Jackie Fitzgerald started on the mound and fanned four batters while reliever Amy Magos recorded two strikeouts versus the Bison.
In game two, Bucknell came out swinging to score three runs in the first inning including a two-run homer from Stackhouse and a solo home run from Jenna Demetriades. Stackhouse struck again in the third inning with an RBI single to center field that allowed Lauren Titus to score for a 4-0 lead. A Lafayette wild pitch allowed Wood to cross the plate for a 5-0 Bucknell advantage.
Lafayette rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run homer from Kelly Wise, but it wasn't enough as Bucknell held on for the 5-2 win.
Bucknell's Brandi Porter earned the win on the mound, giving up just one hit while striking out nine batters. Lafayette reliever Magos fanned four batters in the final five innings.
Lafayette (3-22, 2-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Delaware State for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
