Men's Lacrosse Loses 18-6 at Big East Villanova

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette scored the first goal of the game, but then surrendered 11 unanswered goals in an 18-6 loss at Villanova on Tuesday night.

Robert McLean got Lafayette on the scoreboard 1:08 into the game and the Leopards led for a minute before Villanova initiated a scoring barrage. Villanova's Mike Halloway netted four straight goals and gave Villanova a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

As the second quarter began ticking down, Villanova (4-6) netted six straight goals. Five different players scored in the rally that began at 14:29 and ended at 11:40. Brian Marks was the only person to score multiple goals as the Wildcats took an 11-1 lead.

Keith Helwig scored Lafayette's second goal of the game at 9:43 in the second quarter on Ted Blackburn's second assist of the game. Villanova added another goal at 1:29 to take a 12-2 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Kyle McClure and McLean each netted a goal. McLean's second tally of the game came on an assist from Tim Derosier. McClure added two more tallies in the final quarter.

For the game, Villanova outshot Lafayette 37-27.

Kevin Devito (7 saves, 9 GA, 17 min) and Mike Neary (5 saves, 9 GA, 43 min.) each allowed nine goals while dividing time in the Lafayette net. Sean Philbin (7 saves, 4 GA, 50 min.), Dan Biser (4 saves, 1 GA, 8 min.) and Michael Allen (1 save, 1 GA, 7 min.) all spent time in goal for Villanova.

Lafayette (2-8) next hosts Wagner on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rappolt Field.
