WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - Holy Cross scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally from a 3-1 deficit and defeat Lafayette, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. The Leopards got revenge in the second game by shutting out the Crusaders, 2-0.
In game one, Holy Cross' Alyssa Hayden tied the game at 3-3 in the final inning after hitting a two-run single. Hayden then scored the the winning run on a wild pitch. Pitcher Nicole Vitti collected her fourth win of the season for the Crusaders. Lafayette's Jackie Fitzgerald was dealt the loss for Lafayette.
In game two, Lafayette starting pitcher Amy Magos held the Crusaders to just five hits while fanning one batter to pick up the complete game shutout. Sophomore Megan Longo provided all the offensive for the Leopards when she hit a two run single in the top of the sixth inning. Holy Cross pitcher Michelle Greene struck out four in a losing effort.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in a Patriot League doubleheader at noon at Freshman Field.
