Lafayette Softball Drops Doubleheader at Holy Cross

April 29, 2002

WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - Patriot League rival Holy Cross swept Lafayette in a softball doubleheader Monday afternoon at the Crusaders' Freshman Field. Holy Cross came back to win game one 5-4 (8 inn.) and completed the sweep with a 1-0 (8 inn.) victory in the nightcap.

In game one, Lafayette (6-31, 2-18 Patriot League) pitcher Jackie Fitzgerald helped herself in the fourth inning with a three-run double. However, Holy Cross (12-32, 8-12 Patriot League) exploded for four runs in the seventh inning to tie the game. The Crusaders then scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In the nightcap, Holy Cross pitcher Michelle Greene tossed her first career no-hitter to lead the Crusaders to a 1-0 victory in eight innings. Lafayette hurler Amy Magos was almost as effective, spreading eight Holy Cross hits over eight innings and allowing the one unearned run in the bottom of the eighth.

Liz Lucisano went three-for-four in the first game, reaching base on two singles and a double.

The pair of losses ends the 2002 season for Lafayette.
