A solid pitching effort by the Black Knights propelled Army past Lafayette in a Patriot League doubleheader on Saturday in West Point, N.Y. The Leopards lost the first game 7-0 and fell in game two, 6-1.
Sophomore Laura Schrager and junior Mara Shainheit earned Lafayette's lone hits in game one while a strong pitching effort from Army's Shauna Evans catapulted the Black Knights to a 7-0 win.
Evans picked up the win for Army while Lafayette freshman Jackie Fitzgerald struck out four batters in the loss.
In game two, Erin Allison went 2-for-3 from the plate while batting in the Leopards' lone run of the day. Allison's two-out single in the fourth inning allowed Kelly Wise to score, who had advanced on a fielder's choice and a passed ball.
Army's Ashlie Christian earned the win for the Black Knights on the mound while Lafayette's Mollie Moschberger got the loss for the Leopards.
Lafayette (2-15, 0-6) returns to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader versus Army starting at 1 p.m.
