EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team fell behind early in each of its three games in the team's home opener against Binghamton, and could not recover, dropping a 3-0 decision (30-13, 30-21, 30-22) on Tuesday night.
The Leopards made mid-game rallies in games two and three, but the Bearcats withstood the charges.
Maria Kinzel sparked the Leopards in game three with four timely kills, but in the end Lafayette succumbed to three Bearcats who finished with double-digit kills.
Glorimar Ortega spearheaded the Bearcats' offense, finishing with a team-high 25 assists and 11 kills.
Sophomore Heidi Olichwier added 17 assists, to lead the Leopards in that department, and added five digs.
Kinzel finished with nine digs and five kills.
The Leopards open their Patriot League schedule against Colgate on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Kirby Sports Center.
