Volleyball Falls to Army, 3-1

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -Despite a nine kill, 18-dig performance from Veronica Canto-Ponce (La Jolla, Calif.), the Leopard volleyball team fell to Army 3-1 (20-30, 15-30, 30-28, 25-30) in Patriot League play on Friday evening.

Sophomore co-captain Catherine Herchenroder (Breezy Point, N.Y.) added seven kills and 18 digs while freshman Shannon Fisher (Coplay, Pa.) recorded eight kills, five digs, and on service ace. Junior co-captain Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill.) had another strong defensive game for Lafayette, tallying 26 digs in addition to her 23 assists and two kills.

Sara Fields led Army with 16 kills. Caitlin Machon added 12 kills and 15 digs for the Black Knights while Abby Casciato had 35 assists and 18 digs.

Lafayette falls to 5-14 overall, 0-5 in the Patriot League while Army improves to 11-8, 3-2.

The Leopards will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. when they host Rider at Kirby Sports Center.
