WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Army on Friday night.
The loss eliminates the Leopards (4-9-4 overall, 1-4-1 Patriot League) from Patriot League Tournament contention.
Despite an Army goal just 8:33 into the match, Lafayette controlled play most of the first half, out-shooting the Black Knights 8-2 in the first 45 minutes. Senior midfielder Meghan Ramsey (Lakeville, Minn./Great Valley) nearly knotted the score midway through the half, but her header deflected off several players in front of the net before finally being cleared.
Still trailing 1-0, Lafayette senior forward Kerrie Kiley (Greenlawn, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Ramsey fired a pair of shots on goal in an eight-second span in the 74th minute, but both were turned away by Army freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Garcia.
Alison Mulnix netted the insurance goal for Army with just 2:49 left in the match.
Garcia made two saves in her first collegiate start, while senior Marissa Mullins (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.) and junior Amy Kalista (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) combined for five saves for the Leopards.
Lafayette closes out the 2003 season at home next Saturday, hosting Colgate at 2 p.m.
