EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -The Lafayette volleyball team remained winless in league play as they fell to conference rival Colgate 3-1 (27-30, 14-30, 32-30, 30-32) Saturday evening in Kirby Sports Center.
Freshman Veronica Canto-Ponce (La Jolla, Calif.) led the Leopards with 13 kills. Canto-Ponce also added 14 digs and two service aces in the match. Junior co-captain Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill.) also added nine kills, 12 digs and two service aces, along with 34 assists. Junior Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif.) added seven kills and 11 digs in the match.
Meagan Martino (Croton, N.Y.), Shannon Fisher (Coplay, Pa.) and Catherine Herchenroder (Breezy Point, N.Y.) all added six kills apiece in the match. Herchenroder was also strong defensively, leading the team with 21 digs.
Colgate was led by Caity Whiteaker with 15 kills. Natalie Rawson had 31 digs for the Raiders, while Marybeth Maziarz had seven blocks in the match.
The Leopards fell to 5-21 overall, 0-11 in the Patriot League with the loss. Colgate improved to 6-20, 3-8.
Lafayette will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 5 when they host Kutztown at 7 p.m. in Kirby Sports Center.
