BALTIMORE, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette won two out of three contests on Sunday, downing Virginia, 19-8, and Virginia Tech, 17-10, in the Leopards' season-opener at Johns Hopkins University.
Lafayette fell to William and Mary in its third matchup of the day, 18-9.
Against Virginia, the Leopards cruised to a 9-0 win in foil and 7-2 win in sabre, while falling 7-2 in epee.
Lafayette swept the three events against Virginia Tech, winning 6-3 in foil, 5-4 in epee and 6-3 in sabre.
Seven Leopards finished the day with winning records: Tom Gauntner, Andrew Thomas, Nate Landis and Skyler Connery in sabre, Mathew Ingraham, Mark Lodato and Bredan O'Dea in foil and Dave Satrous in epee.
Lafayette's next meet is scheduled for Jan. 25 against Haverford, Hunter and Yeshiva.
