WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) -Freshman Veronica Canto-Ponce (La Jolla, Calif.) recorded 19 kills and eight service aces in the Leopards' 3-1 (27-30, 22-30, 30-27, 29-31) loss to Patriot League rival Army on Friday night.
Canto-Ponce also contributed nine digs and a team high five blocks.
Sophomore co-captain Catherine Herchenroder (Breezy Point, N.Y.) added eight kills and a match high 23 digs. Freshman Meagan Martino (Croton, N.Y.) also tallied seven kills for the Leopards.
Army had three players with double-digit kills in the match. Sara Fields led the Black Knights with 16 while Anne Fields added 12 and Abigail Stampfler tallied 11. Stampfler also led Army with 19 digs. Erin Kennedy led the team defensively with 10 digs and a match high eight blocks.
Lafayette falls to 5-23 overall, 0-12 in league play. Army improves to 16-12, 7-5.
The Leopards will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 8 as they travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on league opponent Holy Cross at 6 p.m.
